Mr. Dixon Hanna

Associate Provost for Academic Planning, Resources, and Space

Dixon B. Hanna came to Virginia Tech in 1972 as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Environmental and Urban Systems and Extension Specialist in Housing and Community Development. He has served in a number of roles including Assistant and Associate Dean for Administration in the College of Architecture and Urban Studies and Executive Director for Finance and Administration in the Public Service Division. In 1995 he was promoted to the position of Associate Provost wherein he reported directly to the Senior Vice President and Provost. His responsibilities included assisting in the development of the university's annual and biennial budget; providing fiscal oversight and management of the Provost's Area budget; and assisting in the administration of university space. In the fall of 1996 he was appointed Interim Vice Provost for Outreach and Economic Development. In this position he provided oversight of the university's Continuing Education program, including COTA, the Public Services Programs unit and the Office of International Research and Development; provided leadership to the university's initiatives in economic development, including staffing the Economic Development Council; and provided staff support to the Commission on Outreach. On January 1, 1999, he assumed the position of Associate Provost for Academic Planning, Resources, and Space. As such he coordinates university planning activities and manages academic resources and academic space. He received his Bachelor of Architecture degree with honors from North Carolina State University and his Master's in Urban and Public Affairs from Carnegie-Mellon University.
