New Department Heads and Academic Leaders Workshop
In August, the provost sponsors a two-day workshop for new department heads and academic leaders. The 2009 workshop will be held on August 11-12.
While the provost offers the workshop for administrators who are fairly new to their roles, the workshop is not limited to new department heads or new academic leaders. Each year, the deans are invited to nominate faculty in their colleges who may be interested in further developing leadership skills. Assistant or associate department heads find the workshop to be particularly helpful. Self-nominations are certainly accepted.

In 2008, workshop participants had an opportunity to meet other academic leaders, to dialogue with the provost, and to hear about many important topics, such as the Compendium for Creating a Positive Departmental Climate.
